Covid vaccine

Hello, I'm really scared about getting the vaccine. Has anyone had or in the same position as me during early pregnancy? Need some advice.

Just to add to this Katiemay, my wife (who's due in 4 weeks!) and I both took the vaccine back in March at the recommendation of her OB-GYN. This was just about at the tail-end of the first trimester. Other than the two of us having an "us day" on the couch feeling a little crummy and watching bad TV, everything was totally fine.

I can't give medical advice as I'm not a doctor, but from my limited understanding pregnancy causes a lot of strain on the heart and lungs naturally. Covid can also produce strain on these two vital organs. Combined, this could potentially cause complications not only for the baby, but serious issues for the mother. For us the choice was clear - the vaccine would exponetially give my wife and baby a better chance of staying healthy.

Lastly, I read a heart breaking story from an ICU Nurse basically begging pregnant women to get the vaccine. In the span of a month, she had to deliver 6 babies into the world who will never get to meet their mother as they had sucummed to the virus during their hospital stay. I don't say this to frighten you into making a decision - I say this in the hopes that you do have a conversation with a board certified medical professional you trust as soon as you can, and work with them to exam the science, the saftey, and make the right decision for you and your baby.

Wishing only the best for you and your little one - if you want to know more about my wife and I's story, I'm an open book and happy to share. Reach out anytime.

Hello Katiemay,

According to UHC (retrieved 9/3/2021): “COVID-19 vaccination is recommended by the CDC and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists for all people age 12 years and older. This includes people who are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to get pregnant now or might become pregnant in the future. Pregnant and recently pregnant people are more likely to get severely ill with COVID-19 compared with non-pregnant people. Getting a COVID-19 vaccine can protect you from severe illness from COVID-19.  If you have questions, a conversation with your health care provider about the COVID-19 vaccine may be helpful.”  https://www.uhc.com/health-and-wellness/health-topics/covid-19/vaccine?icid=vanity-covid19vaccines
